Understanding and Supporting Executive Functioning Skills
Objective: Participants will discuss and identify the executive functioning skills necessary for students to succeed in their classes, and learn about tools to support and teach these skills. Most tools are accessible through various Google Apps and some copies of organizers, etc. will be handed out at the session.
Description: Understanding and identifying the various lagging skills for any given student will help the teacher to tailor direct instruction and classroom supports for each student. Understanding what may be lagging skills in my students allows me to support them better.
Advice for Implementation: Each task we assign-or assume-can be broken into many steps. Most of us do this automatically, and then accomplish what we set out to do. This process is overwhelming for many students with executive functioning issues. Really understanding this will permeate all aspects of one's instruction.
