Objective: To gain understanding of communication disorders and how to effectively manage communication disorders in the classroom setting.
Describe: Have you ever wondered why a student with a communication disability or speech only IEP is struggling in your classroom? This session will explore different types of communication disorders, how they impact students in the classroom and provide effective strategies to help these students succeed.
As speech/language pathologists, our job is to determine how their communication disorders impact their ability to meet the standards. Examining the standards and areas of weakness together allows us to make the most appropriate plan for the student.
Advice for Implementation: Students with varying communication disorders often appear disengaged and unmotivated. Giving students extra wait time and specific questions will help engage and motivate students to achieve success.
